John Hofmeister
Retired President, Shell Oil Company / Founder and CEO, Citizens for Affordable Energy

John Hofmeister is founder and head of the not-for-profit, nationwide membership association, Citizens for Affordable Energy.

Prior to founding Citizens for Affordable Energy, Hofmeister was president of Shell Oil Company from 2005 until his retirement in 2008. As president his responsibilities included heading the US Country Leadership Team, leaders of all Shell businesses operating in the United States, and the launch of an outreach program to discuss critical global energy challenges. Before his role as president, he was group human resource director of the Shell Group, based in The Hague, The Netherlands.

 

Hofmeister also held leadership positions at General Electric, Nortel, and AlliedSignal (now Honeywell International).

Hofmeister is chairman of the National Urban League, a member of the US Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee, and on the boards of the Foreign Policy Association, Strategic Partners, and United States Energy Association. Additionally, he is a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources and past chairman and a director of the Greater Houston Partnership.

Hofmeister earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from Kansas State University.
